GROAM FAQs

GROAM is Globe's international roaming service exclusive to our prepaid subscribers.
All you have to do is text GROAM ON and send to 2884 to activate the roaming service. If you plan on having your roaming service active only for a specific time period, send GROAM ON <START DATE mm/dd/yyyy> <no. of days> to 2884 (i.e. GROAM ON 09/15/2008 28 and send to 2884).

You can also find out if the service is active in your destination by texting GLIST [name of country] and send it to 2844. You will be charged P2.50 for this text message.

Countries where GROAM is active are divided into regular and special.
A regular country is a destination that allows an unlimited roaming period; you do not have to reactivate GROAM or apply for extension when you are in a regular country.

A special country only allows a limited roaming period, and where subscribers can only use their roaming service for a maximum of 180 days. You can request for an extension after the 180 day period. If you wish to have it extended, you can only do so for up to 14 days.

If you want to send messages while on GROAM, just text "+" + country code + area code + mobile number (i.e. +639171234567).
To make a call, dial *131* + country code + area code (or operator code) + called party's number + #. Press SEND.
There are two ways you can reload:

1) By using a Call Card (this can be purchased at www.globe.com.ph)
  • If you're in a non-Zone 3 country, dial *123* + call card number + PIN + # for FREE!
    (i.e. *123*1234567899123456#)
  • If you're in a Zone 3 country, text LOAD to 2215.
    DO NOT put spaces in between. This text will cost P25.
    (i.e. LOAD6288105113908942)
2) By using Share-A-Load
  • You can ask your loved ones back in the Philippines to text to "2" + mobile number
    (i.e. 100 1234 to 29171234567)
If you are in a non-Zone 3 country, just dial *122# for FREE! Please note that you can check your load balance for FREE only up to 12 times per day.

On the other hand, if you are in a Zone 3 country, just text BAL, then send to 2215. Please remember that every balance check will cost you P25.00.

Although the activation of your prepaid roaming service is free, you need to have a minimum of P100 balance in order to have it activated.

You also need to maintain at least a P100 balance every day to keep your roaming service active. If your balance goes below P100, your roaming service gets deactivated.
It would be best to activate your GROAM one hour before your departure. You can also register for the service 7 days before leaving.
You can do it online at www.globe.com.ph/onlineloading and click on the Prepaid tab. Payment can be done via GCASH.
We suggest that you activate your roaming at least 24 hours before your flight's departure time. Activation is free of charge!
Yes, you need to have at least P80 in credits to be able to make a call while roaming. Otherwise, your call will not be allowed.

In order to send text messages, you need at least P25 in credits.
To check your roaming status, just follow these steps:

1. Dial our Self-Service Menu *143#
2. Press 9 for Roaming
3. Then press 3 to check your roaming status
Another way to check your roaming status is to text GROAM_STATUS to 2884. You will receive a message showing your status. You will be charged P2.50 for the text message if you do this in the Philippines. From outside the Philippines, you will be charged P25 + P2.50.
Yes. Just text GROAM ON and send it to 2884. This message is FREE.
You can cancel your registration simply by texting GROAM OFF and sending it to 2884. You will receive a text message confirming your cancellation.
No, there's no ideal time to deactivate. You can deactivate it anytime you wish.

For *Regular countries, dial *122# then press SEND. (*Balance inquiry is free of charge and is available to you 12 times daily. On the 13th try, balance update will no longer be received)

For **Special countries, text BAL and send to 2215. (**Toll free balance inquiry is not available. Cost to check balance via 2215 is Php 25.00 per message sent) A confirmation message will be received stating the current balance.
Yes, so you can avoid incurring further charges.
You can turn your phone off and on, or perform manual network selection or you may call our hotline *131*6327301212#. This is a toll-free number.
No, these are not charged on your roaming balance.

GLOBE Prepaid ROAM


Enjoy worry-free travel and stay connected with everyone using your Globe Prepaid SIM while outside the country.

Just dial *143# to activate your International Roaming. Activation should be done at least 24 hours before departure. You'll receive confirmation thru text once your International Roaming is activated.

How to Use Roaming

To make calls:
1. Dial *131* + country code + area/operator code + landline/mobile number + # (i.e. *131*6321234567# – for landline, *131*639171234567# – for mobile).
2. Press the "Call" button and your call will end while Globe connects you to the person you're calling.
3. Your phone will start ringing and will be immediately connected to the person you're calling.
4. Your call will be charged only upon connection to the person you're calling.

To send an SMS:
Text your message to "+" + country code + area code + mobile number (i.e. +639171234567).

To check your roaming status:
1. Dial *143#
2. Press 9 for Roaming
3. Press 3 to check roaming status

To check your balance inquiry:
For non-Zone 3, dial *123# (for FREE up to 12 times daily)
For Zone 3, text BAL to 2215 (P25 per text)

To reload:

Using a Call Card (Purchase a Globe call card at www.globe.com.ph)

How do I activate my Roaming Service?
Activating your roaming services is easy. Just text ROAM ON then send to 222. 

How soon should I activate my roaming services?
Activate your roaming services at least 1 hour before leaving the Philippines. 

What are the services that I can enjoy while roaming?
While abroad, you can enjoy a wide list of telco services including: 

• Making and receiving calls
• Sending and receiving SMS
• GPRS services including WAP, internet and MMS (only available to postpaid subs and in select destinations) 

• Caller ID
- Know who is calling before you answer the phone even when you're abroad with Sun's Caller ID feature

• Call Barring
- Protecting yourself from paying for unauthorized international calls is easy with Call Barring. You can choose to restrict your phone from making or receiving any calls, whether local or international. You may also choose to make calls only to your home country. You can choose how you want to protect yourself.

• Call Forwarding
- Take your calls in another phone when your battery runs flat even while you're roaming. Sun makes sure you don't miss a call especially during a business trip abroad.

• Multi Party Call Feature
-  Make simultaneous calls with two of your sales managers in Manila while you're attending a regional meeting in Thailand with Sun Multi-Party call feature.

• Call Waiting and Call Hold
- Know when someone is trying to reach you while you're talking to your mom on your Sun phone with Call Waiting. You can also hold any active call to answer the incoming call or make another call while talking on the phone with Call Hold feature.


Do I get to choose a foreign network while roaming abroad?
Yes. You need to select from available mobile networks while abroad by:
            1.)  Go to your Phone settings menu,
            2.) From Phone Settings, Click Network selections
            3.)  Choose Manual selections
            4.)  Then select SUN from the list of networks available.

Do I get charged when I receive a phone call while I am roaming abroad?
Yes! Please take note that for every time you answer an incoming call, whether it originates from the Philippines or from an international destination, you will be charged depending on the rates charged by the roaming network you are currently on. 

How do I make a call?
When calling back to the Philippines, just dial:
+63 + Area or Network Code + Phone number or 00 + Area or Network Code +Phone number
i.e + 63 + 323 + 1234567 or 00 + 63 + 323 + 1234567 

When calling an international number, just dial:
+ Country code + Area code + Phone number.

How do I send a text message?
When sending a text message, just use the International dialing format of the recepient when sending a message. 
Country code + Area code + Phone number
i.e + 1 + 323 + 1234567 or 00 + 1 + 323 + 1234567. 

I tried to send messages but it gives me a failed message sending notification. What should I do?
Whenever you encounter a message sending failed prompt, it could be that the message center number is different.
Please make sure that the message Center number is + 639220001501

Do I get charged whenever I receive a text message?
No. Incoming SMS are free of charge. 

Do I need to turn off my roaming services when I return to the Philippines?
It is highly recommended to turn OFF the roaming services when you return to the Philippines. Your Packet data (GPRS) settings are disabled once your Roaming services are active. It will be restored once Roaming services are disabled. 

Do I need to maintain a required balance to keep my roaming services active?
Yes. A prepaid credit of at least P100 is needed to maintain your roaming services active while abroad? 

What happens if my credit falls below P100?
If your credit falls below the maintaining balance, a notification message will be sent to you reminding you that you need to top up or reload your credits to at least 100 pesos. Your Roaming services will be deactivated after 48 hours from the time your amount falls below the maintaining balance 

Will I be able to restore my roaming services after my service gets deactivated? 
Yes. Your roaming services can still be activated if you are able to top up or reload prepaid credits within 24 hours from date of deactivation. 

What if I fail to reload my credits after the 24 hour period after deactivation, can I still reactivate my roaming services?
Unfortunately, your roaming services will be permanently deactivated when abroad. Please ensure that appropriate amount of prepaid credits are loaded in your account everytime to avoid such inconvenience. 

How do I turn off my roaming services?
You can turn off your roaming services by simply texting ROAM OFF then send to 222.
You can still call or text your love ones using your Sun Prepaid SIM. The Prepaid Roaming Service is initially available in 6 countries – China, Macau, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and U.S.

Tips while Roaming
• Always have a copy of your passport and/or Visa with you wherever you go around
• Have a list of important telephone numbers with you at all times 
• Keep a handy dictionary with you when abroad. You’ll never know when to use a foreign word or two.
