2014 Toyota 4Runner deploys with sharp edges

The genus of truck-framed sport utility vehicles has sharply declined in recent years, as consumers favor the soft-riding, more efficient car-based models rather than ones which still provide a modicum of off-road and towing prowess. So when an automaker like Toyota updates an older model like the 4Runner for 2014 with all new bodywork and interior, it should be taken as a vote of confidence for those who like their trucks to have a little toughness.

But then you see it, and much like the controversial new Jeep Cherokee, you can't unsee it.

Toyota tweaked the mechanical pieces of the 4Runner, but didn't dilute them; there's still a 5-speed automatic mated to either a pure rear-wheel-drive setup or an optional four-by-four (not all-wheel-drive) with locking center differential. All of which is still powered by the 270-hp V-6, strong enough to score a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 lbs. That lack of changes also means only a one mile-per-gallon increase in highway fuel economy for the 4Runner to 22 or 23 mpg depending on drivetrain; the city ratings remain at 17 mpg for all versions.

Inside, passengers get up-to-date seat materials, a more pleasant cabin with softer surfaces and a modern version of the Toyota in-dash computer. Which they should enjoy, because it saves them from having to look at the front of the new 4Runner, an odd collision of angles and scoops that appear inspired by an angry largemouth bass. Those fish need that gullet to thrive in a variety of habitats; making the 4Runner stand out on the road may be Toyota's similar strategy for the 4Runner's survival.

People Hate to be Sold, But They Love to Buy!

This article is not about the traits or personality of a good salesperson. It's not a list of tips and techniques to make more sales. It's about feelings! Let me explain:

If you are going to be selling something, you need to know what it is that people really buy. People don't buy your products, services, or ideas: They buy how they imagine using them will make them feel. People want to feel good about what they buy. Think about these statements for a moment. Can you think of any purchase where this would not apply? Whether it's a gourmet coffee, a new suit, new car or even a house. This applies even to those things you might consider necessities. The purpose of selling must be to help people get the good feelings they want - about what they bought and about themselves. Don't try to get people to do what they don't want to do. They don't want to feel like they are being sold. But they do want to buy. It's fun. They enjoy it. You need to help people do what they already like to do, and that is to feel good about what they buy.

Almost everyone who succeeds in life is really an effective sales person, whether he or she realizes it or not. Successful business people sell others on the value of their product or services. Successful leaders sell their abilities to bring people what they want. Even successful parents sell their children on leading happy and productive lives. Imagine yourself as the buyer. Remember how you feel when you are the buyer. You probably tend to distrust the person who is selling to you. You would like to trust the person (and/or the company) you buy from and you want to be able to count on them for good service or support if needed. Trust and Service - that is what you would buy. The sales person that provides people with trust and service will do very well.

Behind every sale is a Person

The person so many people call a customer, prospect or lead is, in fact, a person. If you treat him or her as a commodity, a sales statistic or as anything but a person, you reduce yourself to a peddler. They become your customers only after you have made their life better after having purchased your product or service. There is another person in the sales equation, and that is you. Do you feel good about what you are selling? Are you making someone's life better by selling him or her your product or service? Ask your self this question: "Am I more concerned with trying to get what I want or am I really helping other people get what they want?" If you are focused on making your life better with the money you will make from the sale, you are not making your customer's life better. Focus on making the other person's life better. Make this your selling purpose. People can soon sense it when your purpose is to help them.

If you are consistently making sales, it is a sure sign you are adding value to the other person. Your customers will trust you, give you referrals and stick with you for the long haul. When you want to remember how to sell, simply recall how you - and other people - like to buy!

Six Easy Ways to Attract More People

Whether you’re looking to attract more customers, recruit new employees, or network with influential people, there are a few simple things you can do to increase your chances of success. Take a look at our list to see how you can attract more people to you and your business.

Engage everyone with a friendly greeting. Sometimes we get caught up in our own worlds and don’t take the time to greet each person properly. Initiate a friendly exchange by greeting each person. A simple opening such as, “How are you this morning?” or “It’s a pleasure seeing you again,” can suffice. More often than not, such pleasantries can lead to a friendly conversation. When people know you are genuinely interested, they will not only remember you, but will look forward to interacting with you again.

Focus on the individual. Although your ultimate goal may be to attract a certain number of people, forget that number when interacting with one person. For that moment in time, focus solely on the individual. What are his or her needs? How can you be of service to the person? What message is the person trying to convey to you? Don’t inadvertently turn people off by engaging them in generic conversations. Tailor your interactions to that particular person.

Avoid arguments. You will not always see eye to eye with each person you come in contact with. Arguing, however, is unprofessional and will turn people away. Be proactive and avoid potentially controversial topics such as politics and religion. Even if you do these things and a disagreement happens anyway, take the high road and “agree to disagree.” People will respect and appreciate your honesty and courtesy.

Assume everyone is good. By doing so, you demonstrate that you are a positive person who sees the good in others. This feeling is contagious and often reciprocated. Everyone makes mistakes, but giving others the benefit of the doubt will encourage a sense of trust and will likely strengthen your relationship. Besides, wouldn’t you want others to think the best of you?

Be helpful. This can be done in so many ways, and a good deed will definitely be remembered by others. For example, the owner of a local pizzeria found a gold bracelet on a table left behind by one of his last customers of the night. He had no idea who she was or how to contact her, so he put it aside in case she came in again. She returned a few weeks later, and he asked her if she had lost it. The woman was so grateful she was nearly in tears; it turns out the bracelet was left to her by her recently deceased grandmother. She told everyone who would listen how generous the man was and became a loyal patron of the establishment. It would have been just as easy for the owner to toss the bracelet or keep it, but his helpful nature earned him something that was priceless for his business.

Get involved. Reach out to your customers, your staff, and your community. Involving yourself in a good cause will show others that you truly care. People are attracted to others who are generous with their time and skills. Demonstrate your sincere desire to give back to those around you.

You can attract more people by treating others kindly and going the extra mile to show them you care. What can you add to our list? Please share your ideas below!

I LOVE Passive Income!!

As children, we are often taught by our parents to do well in school, go to college and get a good job to succeed financially in life? We have all heard that being active and hard work will make us healthy and wealthy. But being an active participant isn’t always good for your financial health.

Think about it, Do you want to work 8-10 hours a day or 40-50 hours a week for the rest of your working life? Chances are you have spent most of your working life working for the wrong kind of income. I’m talking about Passive vs. Active income, and which is right for you.

--------------------
Active Icome
---------------------
This is the kind of income most people are working for, unless they were born into wealth or won the lottery. This is the income you derive as tips and wages from your job. It may be in the form of product sales on eBay or providing a service as a dog walker or being employee in malls, fast food or call center. It’s likely your salary or your hourly wage in the form of a paycheck. If you have any doubts as to whether a given income is active, just ask yourself: If I don’t do the work, will I get paid?

Kung di ba ako papasok may kikitain ba 'ko? If the answer is NO, Then you are working for an Active Income.

---------------------
Passive Income
---------------------
Passive income is derived from a source that requires no work to generate the payment. This kind of income has historically come from investments in dividend paying stocks, interest in savings accounts or bonds, or renting real estate. The key is that it takes no work to generate the income – once income is being generated. It still takes a lot of effort to start the ball rolling.

----------------------------------------
Which is the right kind of income?
-----------------------------------------
Both types of income require work, and both types are essential for most of us. The difference is that once the work is done for the passive income, one need not do the work again to receive the income. That’s why attaining a passive income should be a goal, and your active income should be the means by which you attain that goal. Think of it as the fuel to power your trip to a passive lifestyle.

Anyone can attain a passive income, the question is how soon do you want it? Typically the big payoffs come from the hardest work and the biggest risk of failure. Think of the starving artist or musician before he hits it big. He sacrifices much early on, but can often retire early.

If you don’t want to, or can’t, accept the risk then you can take the retirement nest-egg path. Retirement account like SSS and GSIS are all about building an investment portfolio that will one day provide enough passive income to replace your paycheck completely. That’s retirement, and it takes a lifetime of active income to achieve it.

The sooner you can cultivate a successful passive income stream, the better off you will be. To this end, you should be using as much of your active income as you can to create these passive income streams. If you’re in debt or want to accelerate your path toward passive income, consider taking a second job and using that income to pay down your debt, or build up your income streams quicker.

-------------------------
The Possibilities
-------------------------

The information age has opened up other avenues to the ordinary person that were previously available to only a select few. Royalties are a good example of this. Before the Internet, you had to work extremely hard on a book or record or some similar product, then you had to be lucky enough to find a publisher or distributor. Then you had to wait for marketing to do its thing and hope it was successful enough to generate significant income for you after paying all the middle men.

The Internet has opened up the royalties piece of the passive income pie like never before. Ebooks only require personal publishing software, a computer and a blog. Throw in some gorilla marketing or affiliate programs and you can generate some sizable income.

Investing is another good example. There is a mountain of free information on the Internet about investing, and discount brokers make it possible for the average person to build a portfolio of dividend paying stocks and bonds without ever leaving their home.

Passive income doesn’t have to be from the stodgy old school of investments, or the up and coming new technology. Some sources of passive income are strikingly bland and unexciting. ATM’s and vending machines can fit this category. While they do require some upkeep, it’s not as much effort for the income as your standard 8-10 hour dailly job.

---------------------------
Network Marketing
---------------------------
Network Marketing is also a form of business where you can have an active income at the beginning where you build a downline organization. You can build it until your efforts will continiously pay you day after day week after week month after month.

Network Marketing is probably the easiest way to create passive wealth from nothing. The startup costs are extremely low, the system is already in place, and anyone can do it.
Robert Kiyosaki calls it "The Perfect Business". Donald Trump has stated that if he ever had to start over from nothing, he would find a good network marketing company and run with it.

In the end, you’re looking at two basic methods to passive income: An entrepreneurial approach, or an investment approach. Which one is right for you depends on your interest, desire and inclination. The important thing is to start thinking about being more passive in your income, and more active in your life.

Boston Marathon bomber manhunt: One suspect dead, second on the run, police say

"Suspect 2" seen in 7-Eleven surveillance footage; police in Watertown (BPD/Getty)

BOSTON—A late-night police chase and shootout has ended with one marathon bombing suspect dead and another on the run here, Boston Police commissioner Ed Davis said early Friday morning. One police officer was killed and another seriously wounded during the pursuit.

Federal agents swarmed neighboring Watertown after local police were involved in a car chase and shootout with at least one of the suspects. During the pursuit, officers could be heard on police radio traffic describing the suspects as having grenades and other explosives.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. Thursday, a robbery was reported at a 7-Eleven in Cambridge, Davis said. An MIT officer responding to the robbery was shot, and later pronounced dead. The suspects fled in a stolen Mercedes-Benz. Watertown Police spotted car and shots were fired between police and the suspects.

One suspect was shot by police and later died, but the second fled on foot, and a tense manhunt ensued.

"We believe this to be a terrorist," Davis told reporters at a hastily arranged press conference in Watertown. "We believe this to be a man who has come here to kill people. We need to get him into custody."

An MTA officer was seriously wounded during the exchange of gunfire, Davis said.

The FBI has yet to publicly confirm a connection between the events in Watertown and the twin explosions that killed 3 people and injured 170 others at the Boston Marathon on Monday. But according to Boston Police, the suspect who remained at large—a.k.a Suspect Two—was the "one in the white hat" seen in the photos released by the bureau on Thursday.

In a radio alert sent issued to fellow officers, the suspect was described as a "white male with dark complexion or a Middle Eastern male with thick curly hair wearing a charcoal gray hooded sweatshirt ... possibly with an assault rifle and explosives." Police in Watertown, Newton, Brighton and Cambridge were put on high alert as the suspect was said to be armed with a "long gun."

"We are aware of the law enforcement activity in the greater Boston area," Boston FBI spokesman Greg Comcowich said in a statement to Yahoo News. "The situation is ongoing. We are working with local authorities to determine what happened."

Worried residents in Watertown, a suburb about 10 miles from downtown Boston, were ordered to stay indoors and turn off their cell phones out of fear that they could trigger improvised explosive devices.

Dozens of police officers, many of them off-duty, searched backyards in search of the second suspect, and a police perimeter of several blocks was established. K9 units and SWAT teams searched homes on Spruce Street as officers searched an SUV that the suspects had abandoned. Multiple devices were left in the road and two handguns were recovered, according to police scanners.

The Watertown shootout occurred after a gunfight erupted near the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where the MIT police officer was shot and later died. The campus was placed on lockdown for several hours, and students were told to remain indoors.

Shortly before 2 a.m. Friday, MIT issued a statement on its website saying that the suspect "in this evening's shooting is no longer on campus. It is now safe to resume normal activities. Please remain vigilant in the coming hours."

At approximately 3:30 a.m., Massachusetts State Police issued a plea on Twitter for residents of Watertown to lock their doors and not open them for anyone as they searched backyards and exteriors of houses there.
"Residents in and around Watertown should stay in their residences," the alert read. "Do NOT answer door unless it is an identified police officer."

Boston blast suspects' images released

These posters released by the FBI on Thursday, April 18, 2013, show what the FBI are calling suspect number 1, wearing a black cap, and suspect number 2, wearing a white cap, walking through the crowd in Boston on Monday, April 15, 2013, before the explosions at the Boston Marathon. AP/FBI

BOSTON (AP) — The FBI released photos and video of two suspects in the deadly Boston Marathon bombings and asked for the public's help in identifying the men. The agency's website crashed within moments Thursday.

FBI Agent Richard DesLauriers said the images are from surveillance cameras near the explosion sites shortly before Monday's blasts at the world's most famous marathon. The men are seen walking together in the crowd, and the man in the white cap is seen setting down a backpack at one site near the finish line, DesLauriers said.

"We consider them to be armed and extremely dangerous," DesLauriers said, asking the public not to approach the men. He said there is no additional danger that the FBI knows of at the moment.

Monday's blasts killed three, including a student from China, and injured more than 180.

The images came out hours after President Barack Obama promised a grieving city to hunt down whoever was responsible.

The images show two young-looking men wearing baseball caps, wearing jackets and carrying backpacks along the race route and weaving through the crowd. The planting of the backpack is not depicted in the video footage that was made public.

The FBI would not discuss the men's ethnicity.

"It would be inappropriate to comment on the ethnicity of the men because it could lead people down the wrong path potentially," said FBI agent Greg Comcowich, a spokesman for the Boston FBI office.

The information on the first suspect was developed within a day or so before its release, DesLauriers said. Agent Daniel Curtin said the FBI did not issue the photos earlier because authorities wanted to be meticulous: "It's important to get it right."

Generally, law enforcement agencies release photos of suspects only as a last resort, when they need the public's help. Releasing photos can tip off a suspect and deny police the element of surprise. It can also trigger an avalanche of tips, forcing police to waste time chasing them down.

"Each piece moves us toward justice," DesLauriers said of the latest information to emerge.

At an interfaith service honoring the victims, Obama called the perpetrators of the attack "these small, stunted individuals who would destroy instead of build."

The blasts killed 8-year-old Martin Richard, 29-year-old Krystle Campbell and Lu Lingzi, a graduate student from China. Seven victims remained in critical condition.

The bombs were crudely fashioned from ordinary kitchen pressure cookers packed with explosives, nails and ball bearings, investigators and others close to the case said. Investigators suspect the devices were then hidden in duffel bags and left on the ground.

They exploded within 15 seconds of each other near the finish line at a high-traffic time when thousands of runners were pouring in.

Several media outlets had reported that a suspect had been identified from surveillance video taken at a Lord & Taylor department store between the sites of the bomb blasts.

The investigation will probably collect about a million hours of videotape from fixed security cameras and cellphones and cameras used by spectators, said Gene Grindstaff, a scientist at Intergraph Corp., a company that makes video analysis software used by the FBI and other law enforcement agencies.

Video and photos are being examined and enhanced by an FBI unit called the Operational Technologies Division, said Joe DiZinno, former director of the FBI lab in Virginia.

Investigators are looking at video frame by frame — a laborious process, though one aided by far more sophisticated facial recognition technology than is commercially available, forensic specialists said.

Also seen in the newly released video is a spectator walking in front of the two men, then stepping aside, holding a cluster of yellow balloons — which can be seen in the shaky moments after the first blast floating free.

Cookies and Cream, Milo and Classic Polvoron

Polvoron is one of the popular desserts in the Philippines. It is also one of our favorite childhood treat. Who does not want polvoron anyway? Whether a child or a child at heart, everyone would definitely love this crumbly, milky and buttery, melts-in-your-mouth special treat.

Original recipe of polvoron is composed of powdered milk, butter and flour added with sugar for a slight sweetness. Probably one of the classic ingredients that are added to it is pinipig (toasted glutinous rice). As of today, different ingredients are added to it like nuts (cashew, pili, etc.), cookies, chocolate, ube, to have different flavors that would fit the individual taste of polvoron fans out there. Perhaps the most common brand of polvoron among Filipinos is Goldilocks Special Polvoron. Another one is Sasmuan Special Polvoron from the Food Capital of the Philippines, Pampanga. So if you are craving for polvoron try their different polvoron variants.

But if you can’t find one, you can definitely make your own polvoron and it’s so quick and easy. I’m also craving for polvoron when I made this recipe. I made three variants: Classic Polvoron, Cookies and Cream, and Milo Polvoron. All of them have the exact sweetness that I want. It’s perfect as a low cost dessert. It’s milky, buttery and crumbly. If you are craving for polvoron right now try making this recipe. Tell me what you think.

Cookies and Cream, Milo and Classic Polvoron

Ingredients
2 cups All Purpose Flour
1/2 cup Sugar
1/2 cup Powdered Milk
1/3 cup Butter
1-2 sachets (22g) Milo
1/4 cup Oreo Cookies

Cooking Directions
1.Toast flour in a pan for 15 minutes or until the color turns light brown. Make sure that you stir it continuously to prevent the flour from being burnt.
2. Let it cool for a few minutes and then, mix in sugar, powdered milk and butter.
3. Divide the mixture into three.
4. Mix crushed Oreo cookies to one portion.
5. Mix Milo powder to other portion.
6. The third portion will served as the classic polvoron. You can add pinipig if you want.
7. Mold your polvoron into circles or oval shapes using a polvoron molder. Then wrap it up in Japanese papers or cellophane.

Serve and Enjoy!
